Awards and Recognitions
Each year the Association honors two of its members for their dedication and service to the organization. A committee of previous winners selects the Builder and Associate Members of the Year. Annual recipients are selected using a point system with points being awarded for a variety of HBA activities and programs. The winner of these awards each year set the pace for future recipients. This is the most prestigious award a member of the Association can receive.
Members active in recruiting new members into the organization are recognized for their efforts through the Spike Club. As members Spike credits increase from one plateau to the next they are recognized.
Political Action Two political action programs protect industry interests in the political arena. Members support thought contributions the NAHB's BUILD-PAC representing them in Washington, DC and SC BUILDERS PAC on the state level. Both committees work to ensure that pro-housing candidates that support housing affordability and home ownership opportunities are elected to all levels of government.
Publications Free subscriptions to industry publications are available to association members. Members receive OpenHouse published by the HBA of Hilton Head informing industry members on happenings within this area. Builder Journal provides members with information on activities statewide on a quarterly basis. BUILDER is the official publication of the NAHB. Members receive it along with Nations Building News a newsletter from NAHB. Numerous other publications are available from NAHB upon a memberÍs request.
Home Show/Home Tour In March of each year members of the HBA gather in the Mall at Shelter Cove to display the latest in products and innovations available to home owners and buyers. Home Show is the one opportunity each year to find answers to their housing needs in a single place. In conjunction with the Home Show is the annual Home Tour providing an opportunity to visit a number of newly constructed homes in the area. Homes are located within plantations both on and off island as well as non-plantation sites.
LightHouse Awards Established in 1999 the LightHouse Awards are presented to builders in recognition of construction excellence. A panel of judges from around the region judges homes that are entered. The annual Awards Banquet held each November has become one of the Associations largest and most successful events.
Educational Programs The HBA of Hilton Head annually sponsors and holds seminars and workshops for its members. These programs are designed to provide not only basic business skills and knowledge but to provide cutting edge information and technology to members. Members can obtain various Certifications through completing coursework offered by the Home Builders Institute of the NAHB. Certifications available are: Graduate Remodelor (CGR), New Homes Sales Professional (CSP), Graduate Builders Institute (GBI) and Member Institute of Residential Marketing (MIRM).
Remodelers Council Affiliated with the NAHBÍs National Remodelers Council the Remodelers Council of Hilton Head provides a forum for members involved in the remodeling industry to exchange information and address concerns directly related to home remodeling. A main focus is to help educate the general public in how to select a qualified remodeling contractor. Monthly meetings and programs provide ongoing information and product knowledge to members.
