What is an Architectural Review Board (ARB)?
Area plantations are platted by the local government and include covenants and restrictions. As part of each plantation's covenants, ARBs are established to oversee construction. ARBs control the minimum square footages, building setbacks, exterior colors, home design, and landscaping. In addition, many require that homes be designed by approved architects and/or designers and that your builder is an approved builder for the plantation. Prior to beginning construction the ARB will require that you submit architectural drawings as well as site and landscaping plans for their approval. Fees may also be charged for plan review, compliance deposit and inspections depending on the plantation. The homeowner most often pays these fees.
