What about the cost?

This is probably the most often asked question about building a home in this area. For custom homes there is no average cost per square foot. Each home is individually priced based upon the decision you and your builder make. Your builder will most likely give you an estimate of cost based on the previous homes they have built. However, remember this is only an estimate. Builders with model homes can give you a more accurate estimate of cost. Many semi-custom or tract builders will have predetermined costs for the homes they builder with minor variation based on selection you make.

A number of factors will influence the actual cost of your new home. These include, lot elevation, tree removal, sewer availability, flooring, bath and kitchen fixtures, cabinetry, wall finishes, windows, landscaping, and others. The builder should provide you with a list of items, which are optional. Builders will often provide you an allowance for many items such as fixtures, wall coverings, carpets, appliances and so on. Allowances will vary from builder to builder and you should carefully compare these when making your decision.
